Do you have a boss? If so, inevitably you’re faced with the question of whether or not to get him or her a gift at certain times of the year. For instance, you might want to get your boss a birthday present or a holiday present or something for “Boss’s Day.” Yes, there is such a thing.
Then there are times when a gift might be appropriate if your boss just had a baby, got married, had an important anniversary, or went through a surgery. A “get well” gift is always appreciated. Should you spend a little money or a lot of money on a gift for the boss? Ultimately, that’s up to you; you’re welcome to ask co-workers and see what they’re planning to spend, or, better yet, go in together to buy a gift so you all share the cost.
For the record, the most important times to consider giving your boss a gift include his or her birthday, winter holidays such as Christmas, and National Boss’s Day, which falls on October 16th. You’re also welcome to give a gift at going-away parties, milestone birthday/anniversary parties, and/or an office party celebrating something about the boss.
